I have found in most cases the USB to RS232 9 pin adaptor will work.
There are some adaptor cables do not work with machine tools.
I have purchased two brands and they work fine (both cheap).
The trouble maybe your comunication software may not allow the port configuation which could be a high number as some of the early software packages only allowed from com1 to com4.
