Thread: Will a 2.5 amp board drive a 3amp motor

    Will a 2.5 amp board drive a 3amp motor

    I expect it will but not have full power and the board will be stressed?
    am I correct ?
    or will It just burn out the board as it will try and give more amps than it can
    6 wire bipolar config micro stepping on full board voltage (36v)

    The drive controls the current, not the motor. So if the drive is set to deliver 2.5A, that's all it will deliver. The motor will only have 2.5/3 = 83% of it's torque.
