My take on a stepper damper
Jeff...
I have a MaxNC controller hooked up with the motors it came with on my homemade machine. Everything seems to work pretty good except for every once in a while the z axis starts to sound higher pitched when you move it and then begins to drop on its own like the motor has given out. What can be causing this?

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.
Does anyone know of some ways that I can fix a resonance problem? That contraption in the link above looks kind of complicated..

Abomb55076,
Try using a hockey puck as a damper, several users have had successful results.

Could you explain to me what the resinance is causing for other users, it sounds like its more of a noise problem from vibrations but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the quick help Jeff, so can resonance be the cause of why soemtimes, when I start up my motors, the z axis will run really rough, and then I will click reset on Mach and then it seems to run fine?
