Trying to find info on old Thompson Omni drives (full size)

i have an omni drive OD-075i with no manual. i am familiar with the smaller size counterparts;the ODM series so functionality is pretty much the same. i don't however know what the little potentiometer/3pins/ 1-digit display looking object in the corner is used for. i have contacted the company and they no longer support and manuals/documents on this stuff. thanks!

This sounds like you are describing a min. rotary switch, if you find when you turn it it clicks between digits, this most likely is it.
If it is this, it could be a drive address switch if the drives are daisy chained from the control etc.
    Just a guess.

thanks! yes it is a rotary switch, and when i changed it from 0 to 1 and so on the drive address changes when i search for it on the serial port so i guess that is its function. are you familiar with these drives? Any more information you could give would be tremendous. what about the 3 pins with A1 A2 and com on them?

Sorry, I don't recall ever coming across these drives.
I assume you have these drives and are trying to make use of them?
Does it appear to be power pins or inputs? you can usually tell as to where they head to/from and what kind of SS devices are hooked up to them.
If power, they could be armature, if input could be analogue?
Are these DC or AC drives?
Just another guess at this point.

yes, they are not for production/heavy use and i am using them for simply testing of our products (spin life tests, torque tests etc) so they work fine for the application i am using them for. i have many drives and servos and they work well, and i know how to use them but i acquired a "beefier" 15KW drive for a bigger motor and even thought its the same product line and has the same features as the drives i know how to use, it does have a couple features i am not familiar with. the guess about the rotary switch was right, and i figured out the 1 digit display shows faults/drive status but right in between the two are three pins (not jumper type but they look like you would attached alligator clips to) and i have no idea what they are used for. all the other inputs/outs are spoken for except the three TINY pins.

If the pins have a flat top to them, then they are most likely test points, the jumper type are usually straight pins on .1" spacing.

thanks for the help. a good welcoming to the forum! my last question is not nessessarily about my specific drive but more about drives in general. Do you have to size a drive for the size servo you use? for example i have a 1.5hp servo (all this stuff is compatible with power/connectors) that usually works with my 2KW drive. i just acquired a 3hp servo and 7.5KW drive. so my question is can i just use the larger drive to power whichever servo i am using that day? i also have a tiny .5hp drive as well.

Yes, As a general rule, the limit may come if you cannot set the current limit low enough on the larger drive, in that case you would have to take care not to overdrive it, or place some kind of lower rated overload device for protection.

yes i can set the maximum current via software. so as long as i set the correct current limits, i can use any compatible servo motor with the one big drive?
