    Default RichAuto vs Mach3

I'd like to know how the RichAuto controllers compare to Mach3?

I know both Laguna and Axiom use them is relatively high end small machines, seem like they should be good - are they?

I like Linuxcnc (but I have no experience with either of those.)

    PS: it's free.

If the RichAuto still has all the Chinese symbols which you see in many videos, I would steer clear unless you are fluent in Chinese. Some of the DSP controllers have fully been converted to English others only partially. There are more and more controllers hitting the market. One of the most recent is the CentroidCNC Acorn controller. It cost $265 but it comes with some very tested software by a big name in the industry. It just got introduced and starts shipping next Wednesday. Check out their link. I have absolutely nothing to do with this company but there are many followers on cnczone, their bigger controllers that run the same software get mounted on many commercial machines. Worth a look.

You might want to consider using UCCNC with the Axiom machines.

What would modification be required to run the Axiom with either UCCNC or Linuxcnc instead of the RichAuto?

I don't know what type of hardware is in the Axiom control, but you'd need to replace it with a CNC Drive controller (and breakout boards) for UCCNC, or a Mesa board for LinuxCNC (unless you are using the parallel port).

I'm not sure exactly what that means Ger.

Last year I replaced the stepper drivers in a Techno Davinci with Geckos and run it with Mach 3, would this be similar?

There should be a controller board in your machine, that the drives are connected to. You need to replace this board with a CNC Drive controller.
