I had to replace my hard drive on my computer. I am not setting it the way I like to run it. I want to be able to turn the computer on and not have to click on the user when it loads up. How do I change the way it loads the desktop automatic without me clicking on the user ID? |

| if you've installed all of the windows updates, one of them install a "asp.net" user, (it's a special hidden account used by .net stuff). there is a registryfix for that at: http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/aspdot.php if that doesn't fix it, the you have to go into control panel, user accounts and change the way user logon and logoff. (you want to use the welcome screen). |

| Go to : http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx Dowload the tweakUI powertoy Then go to "logon" inside "Auto Logon" enable "Log on automatically at system startup" Give the username you wish to be logged on as, and give the password for this user. The other settings can be interesting to tweak, see for yourself, it's also a pretty safe tools. I don't really know a way to screwup a computer by using it. The other powertoys are pretty useless. Maybe except the virtual desktop. But it's really lacking. |

On my CNC machines, I had to turn updates off in addition to using TweakUI. If anyone knows a better way, I'd like to hear about it. Karl |

| When you start Windows on a computer that is running Windows XP and that has only one local user account, and this local user account does not have a password, the Welcome screen does not appear. Instead, your desktop appears. However, when you start Windows on a computer that is running Windows XP and that has more than one local user account, the Welcome screen appears. . |

| Ger21 If you just did a fresh install and did ALL the updates available, the you will have an account ASP.NET that does not show in the logon window. Just remove that account from the system and you will not need to click through the logon anymore. This is assuming that you don't need or use the .NET stuff.

| If you know what your doing, you can do a registry hack (otherwise get TweakUI). This (registry hack) is serious stuff as far as your pc working or not, use at your own risk. 1) Start 2) Run (type the word regedit). 3) http://www.windowsnetworking.com/nt/.../rtips34.shtml
