    cat 5 network hook-up for DNC ????????

I have a Sharp 2412 with Fanuc 0i Mate MB, there is a rs232 & a cat 5 connection, I would like to use the cat 5 as I am already wired for this. I have hooked it up but it does not show up on my network. I am a small home type shop so would like to keep it on the cheap side if possible as far as software goes...any recommendations? I have found a lot of dnc software for rs232 but only Predator for cat 5 and it is $$$. Also I have no idea what setting I have to change on the machine. Any help or recommendations would sure be appreciated.

    krfrea:

I have no knowledge about your machine. However, some questions.

If your CNC can actually be put on the network as you would any other computer, then why would you need "DNC" software? What is your definition of DNC? Is it Direct Numerical Control, popularly known as "drip feed", or do you simply mean communication software?

I would suggest you read the CNC machine manual for Ethernet operation, and see if you can possibly decipher what it says. It may not be easy.

If you are going to use the cat5 connection, you will not need the DNC software. Have you set up all the network requirements on the machine side properly (IP address, same workgroup,etc..)?

I am still learning, I guess I do not need dnc software. I talked with a very helpful guy from Port CNC at the machine show in Milwaukee and he advised me to set up a server using "freeFTPd", which I have done...now all I have to do is figure out how to config it and the fanuc control so they recognize each other etc.
