I do remember a thread where a fellow had trouble with Mach using the USB to paralell port unit. Solution was install a paralell port card.

Hello,
I have an IH mill (the actual machine new to aaron's site update) and parts all over the place to hook up soon to the new pc that I just put together, and even went to the supply to get the connector to the printer port on pc then .... no port on new pc ! only have usb ! So, its either a card add on port or convert to usb. I would like to know, what are some options here and how will mach 3 be for configuring to them. Is there the possibility of using the usb for the connections and config or am i locked into board port add-on. I have been reading about every other facet here and there but nothing much more than (pin # @ port 1) don't recall any other options aired at all. I'll bet this turns out really simple and i'm just reverting to brain freeze-up. Thanks for any and all help I may receive

Get too many translation devices between the processor and the machine control and you run a greater chance of problems developing.
I too recall a situation where USB wasn't as "universal" a way to communicate as one would have one believe.
Keep in mind that although Windoze is good for a lot of computer activities, it can be flakey if the processor decides to dedicate it's capabilities to doing something other than machine control in a CNC environment - like communicate with a USB to parallel translation translator of some sort.
Have you tried this thread?

Just buy one of these for Mach3 use. http://rogersmachine.net/PCIport.html
