When you say "graphics" what exactly do you mean? Animated gifs? Video editing/compression from digital camcorder? Photoshop work on images? Or are you going serious, like Maya?

how many computers have you built? Have you ever overclocked a computer? If not, you'll be happy to know that the system you're putting together will likely run at 3.0 GHz without a problem, maybe 3.2 GHz if you're lucky with stock cooling, and likely 3.5 GHz or faster with a good cooling solution (like the watercooler in my avatar )

My other comments: You may be better off to build a dual processor machine, especially if your 'graphics' program(s) can take advantage of it. You won't find a smoother running machine than a dually. Take a look at the MSI K7D Master-L with a couple of low-speed TBred B processors (like the 1700+) If your program is SMP capable, that system will be cheaper than the P4 system and have tons more processing power.

Also, I would always recommend buying quality, name-brand motherboards. My favorite brands are Abit and Asus, although there are plenty of other good brands.

finally, there's 2 websites I'd like to recommend.
1. www.newegg.com - hands down the best place to buy parts.
2. www.overclockers.com - be sure to check out their forums at forum.oc-forums.com . there's TONS of info there.

Hope it helps!

well, it looks like you're all set, wallcrawler. That ought to be a good, solid system for you.

I'm kinda getting tired of my old Athlon 1600+ running at 2.0 GHz, so I'm seriously thinking about upgrading to a nice dually with TBred Bs clocked to about 2.3 GHz each. (Watercooled, of course ) That ought to last me another year or so, at least until there's some good software written for 64 bit processors.

If you do overclock that 2.8C, let me know how it does. I've heard they're screamers.

case

looks nice.

the only thing i'd add is that the thermaltake case can be hard to install stuff in. so unless you like the look i would probably suggest a antec case, they are really nice as far as installing harddrives, etc.

edit: didnt realize you had already bought it. let me know what you think about the case

Well the Beast is running.

This is what’s installed so far the OS XP PRO and all updates plus drivers plus antivirus.

Now I have to load Office 2003 PRO.
All files I backed up.
Tweak.
Install my graphics programs update all that, games install restore all back ups and updates.
I say about another 8 hrs of loading stuff.

Then test test test.
