XP has imbedded packet writing software that is supposed to allow you to read/write to a cd like it was a floppy. I would reccomend disabling this and using something like NERO. It has to be diabled first as it seems to cause problems with other software.
You can disable by shutting down the service (directcd?). Do a google on XP disable packet writing for details. You may be able to disable under the properties of that drive as well.
WOW! $700 for a HP burner? I always wondered who was paying R&D for me! Things have changed a great deal since the days of the $700 burner besides cost. For M$ to code for every possible outdated piece of hardware, the OS would be twice its size, with four times the bugs. Can't really fault M$ when HP doesn't keep its drivers current.
XP and 2000 are the only way to go for stability, support and compatability. They won't work in EVERY case, but what does?
Good luck |
