Hi Jay. Welcome to the Zone!

Here's some great deals on parallel port computers:

What are you going to run with those 1200 oz motors?

CR.

Hey! CR / mcphill......thanks for the welcome!

There's definetily more of a selection of computers on the link you posted. I can get the HP dc5700 for $299. from the local computer store..not to worried about the price as long as it will work.
As for what I'll be running...ha, not sure now. I think I may be underestimating the power of stepper motors. I read a post yesturday that 1800ozin motors would lift a 900lb head (math was involved). I run a TMG at work and the head on that must be close. Also at work the millrights are rebuilding the x-axis ways on an old multi-spindle cincinnati. They have the bed back on (apx. 1800lbs 12ft long). I asked one of the millrights how hard it would be to turn the ballscrew. He was gonna show me by turning it by hand, but realized there is no oil under the ways yet.
Got me thinking how much force is actually needed to move wight around. I would like to get some motors that could push up to a 200lb gantry.
Buy electronics first build machine later

Any suggestions or formulas would be great!

My work opened up a computer program so us employees can borrow money to go towards computers and related products. CNC is related, so I have to go ahead. I would like to order something soon.. I wish they would open up a build a cnc program..that way I could get everything.

Hi!

So I'm pretty sure the computer will work. Now I have questions about motor power..should I be posting questions on another thread..like in the DIY router area?
