i have been designing and building my own RC carbon fiber parts for last couple of months and have been working with a local machine shop to cut my carbon for me. they have no experience in machining carbon fiber and so it has kinda been a trial and error process but its starting to get expensive. can anyone tell me what is the best way to machine carbon fiber. basically i am working with 3mm 1k weave high quality carbon. i dont know much about the machine other than it is a CNC machine. i need to know what are the best bits to use (and where to buy them online if possible), what RPM to run, and what IPR to run? so basically bits, speeds, and feeds. Can anyone please help me? thank you, thank you. oh also, for drilling holes what is the best way to go? |

| Cutting carbon laminated sheet near every day Spindle speed at least 30.000 RPM and feed 200...300 ipm ... even more. I use coolant - dont like this dust. 1/8 shank Carbide endmills I buy from ebay.de from one and same seller - are the best for me. Im not sure about whos product but similar endmills what has different colour distance rings - those are very brickle at least for me. Cheers, Herbert |

| Yeah - now it looks like tergiversation - but I really cant find out this guy right now. When I buy then I do it per hundred of bits every time. Last time was year ago. Although I cut every day I break mills very seldom. When ca 1mm and less cutter and you are too hurry - then yes, you can break in a row. Most of all I use (1 ...) 2mm ones like Artikelnummer: 110388808847 (looks good!). I have all sizes - I bought huge lot of, very cheap per item and all are new ones. Very close to Artikelnummer 280203485575 - but I dont do it for this prise, there you can just find different German therms for smarter search like Artikelnummer 180355779508 . Im sure you can find from US as well but you need to pass through your own "trial and error" - some types are much better, sharper and stronger than anothers. Even used ones are good , at least sometimes. Regards, Herbert |
