| I dont think I have milled any Duplex, but I have turned quit a bit. Inserts for Stainless are suitable, Iscar, Kennametal, Seco, etc all offer good grades for this family of Stainless/Nickel based materials. As far as feeds/speeds depth of cut go definately depends on the size of your part, rigidity, amount of material being removed, types of operations(drilling, boring, facing, grooving, turning) there are too many variables to list. I would treat it like 316SS but about 30-40% slower surface speed. Tools with a positive lead angle into the cut help alot when roughing. Start slow and work your way up, do not work harden! I have let drills get dull and glaze the bottom of the hole with what seemed like 65rc d-2 tool steel. A brand new cobalt drill at a super slow speed and a ridiculous high feed to break through the heat effected zone seemed to be the best bail out. happy cutting AC |

| I have worked with both 2205 and LDX2101 doing milling and turning. It does cut very similar to 316 so start with similar feeds and speeds. We used Kennemetal Inserts (9210) and solid carbide drills with through coolant. Just a side note, the 9210 insert works really well on Inconels. We did a trial for Kennemetal using this insert on inconel 625. |
