of course i dont know the cutting conditions (lathe or mill) but i turn a couple different parts from o1, i found better tool life using a 135 degree split point cobalt drill following a 90 degree spot drill, i break too many center drills, but the spot drill has to be good and sharp, the guys in my shop often ignore the spot drill and blame the drill for there problems when a dull sopt drill is the problem

thanks but it is on a turn pro 9x49 mill i have tried cobalt hss and carbide and have found that carbid will brake regardless of the pressure you supply we have a master tool and cutter grinder in house that sharpens all of my drills endmills etc he has a new design on split points wich in softer material cold rolled allum etc but that will out last and an increase of about 25 percent that of an ordanary split point any way the regular split points you can buy last about 30 holes and his lasts about 50 and carbide lasts 2

We had a job with a HUGE number of holes in D2. We found a Raycon drill grind gave almost twice the life. http://www.winsloweng.com/articles/g...rm_content.htm YMMV Karl
