Rpovey, Thanks for the info. I was having many issues trying to get the infill correct in Slic3r. I was getting great prints on the exterior. I had my A axis way off. I recalibrated (paying attention this time!) and the settings within Slic3r are acting as they should. BTW I was retracting 3.5cm and that is why it seemed so long and would come out of the feeder. The 3.5mm retraction is very tolerable LOL. Though i still get a little blobbing. Back to melting plastic. The Pink Panther bust came out great til a power glitch killed the process after 80000 lines of code (almost to the belly button). Are you all using backlash comp in Mach? My backlash is very low anyway but I got some strange reactions with skewing. I will have to try that again later. On to more accurate calibrations.

The exact amount depends on the Hotend predominantly but PLA vs ABS matters as does temperature.

Run the minimum you can get away with.

I am actually using Ramps and repetier firmware, so backlash compensation isn't available.

I did measure my backlash, Z is pretty horrible 0.1mm, but since it's only moving in one direction it only affects the 2nd layer.
X and Y were pretty close to 0 after I replaced the idler pulleys on the H1 and tensioned the belts sufficiently.

If your still seeing blobs I'd try reducing your print temperature by 5 degrees. The 10x10x40 tower is a good print to verify you're print temperature is optimal. The first time I printed it, it was more like a distorted blob, dropped the print temperature almost 10 degrees before I could get a decent version.

My remaining irritation is I have some Z wobble, but it's pretty minor.

If you get good prints from less than a pound of plastic, you are doing good.
It took me about 1/2 pound in PLA and the same in ABS. Getting my first decent results now in ABS. I will also say the the settings for PLA and ABS vary widely.
I would also suggest printing all the small calibration prints that you can find. The good ones anyway.
That really shows whats up. Also when doing that, vary the infill and perimeters. Small items need fewer perimeters and less infill. Stronger larger items more.

I ordered 6kg from reprapers.com on 4/9, they shipped on 4/11, sent the confirmation email tonight, and FedEx shows it in Memphis and arriving here on 4/17. 5 kg of PLA and 1 of ABS, $86 and $72 shipping or $11.97/lb.

Simon had said it takes them a few days after an order is shipped to get the tracking number back from FedEx.

Yeah they got the tracking number in a few days on the first order, this order he said the tracking
number showed it being delivered in Bulgaria, he knew it wasn't right so he didn't give it to me.
He gave me a corrected tracking number today and it shows it'll be delivered tomorrow, it actually shipped on the 12th.
Still very quick shipping and they responded to my emails so I have no problem dealing with them again, good thing cause I want some purple now.

Good to see you here Hoss

I was looking at getting a 3d printer to build prototypes for parts before I mill them out...another hobby that you helped me get hooked on.

When I saw you here I realized I was going to spend a lot of money here too.

I picked up the V2 Linear Prusa with the Ramps1.4 and second extruder.

I am putting together a shopping list. Do you have any advice as to what SW to use to control a dual extruder?

    1. 3d Drawing to G Code
    2. Controller SW (Mach3 like)
    3. Any other Recommended SW
    4. Firmware for Ramps1.4

I just got engaged this last year; things I realized...
    • Women don't understand a guy's need to make things
    • Machines don't get pissed at you but they do scream and throw things
    • A guy needs his lab space

Thank You again for your help
    Tim

I still have to play with the software yet for the double extruder but I'm running the same things as the guy who made the thingiverse writeup,
Pronterface (host) Marlin (firmware) Slic3r may be the difference, I believe he used skeinforge.

Still printing the the chinese filament, squeezed out a skull.
Had a problem half way thru, the filament pushed the tubing out of the nut on the end.
Thought maybe it hit a thicker than usual section of filament but it still measured the same.
Won't happen again, I double nutted the tubing this time.
Instead of reprinting the whole skull, I used Netfabb to cut the model where it stopped
then just printed the top half and glued them together.

My 6kg from repraper arrived today. All the PLA was the correct color (black, white, red, blue (quite dark), natural), but the spool of green abs is actually a medium brown color. Will it change color when printed, or did they make a mistake? I'll contact Simon and ask.

I'm in the Printrbot Kickstarter and haven't received my PB+ yet. I'm a bit reluctant to break the seals and give it an extra couple weeks of moisture exposure so it hasn't been measured yet.
