    Smaller Spindles?

Does anyone know which ATC equipped spindle is the most compact?
I am looking for something closer to the size of a Porter Cable than a fire-hydrant.
Is there a way to modify/ upgrade a porter cable with ATC capability?

It is awfully quiet in here...

I found a FIMEC spindle from ekstromcarlson,
    Model SM-C78 Spindle Motor, 4.7 HP at 18000 RPM, 220 Volts, 15.3 Amps $4500.00

    Toolholders Not included

Reactor (Recommended between drive and motor) $227.70

    Variable Speed Drive (5HP, 220V / 1Ph / 60 Hz Input) $835.05

This spindle is still longer than I want. I think it was 491 mm or so, with the ISO 30 toolholder.

I can spend more than this, I have but to find a shorter spindle...

    Watch this seller:

When he have skimmed the market, the 4041 spindles will go for $500. (They did one year ago). But you will need the inverter to drive them. Make sure you budget to cover that. The 4052 is super for PCB routing+drilling. The 4041 can do heavier work (500W).

The toolchanger will release tools up to 6mm shank. The collet stays in the spindle, but can be changed to smaller. That is a manual operation though.

Thanks for the link, I came into a 4052 spindle a few months ago and so far have not been able to find a suitable converter for it.
