Hi Guys Has anyone come across a CNC controller that has been converted from three phase to single phase? I have one and I want to change it back to three phase, inside the control box there is an inverter drive that turns the single phase input to 3 phase for the motors / spindle, will this be obsolete once converted back to 3 phase? Does anyone have a PACER HDS CNC? Any help would be great. |

| Snwbrdr, You are asking if you can convert a machine running on single phase back to run on three phase power right? The VFD actually controls both the voltage and frequency coming to the spindle motor. Most VFDs can take 3 phase input and output 3 phase output. Some VFDs are capable of taking single phase 220v/460v input and convert this to a three phase output. The big question is why would you want to go back to direct three phase? The most logical answer is for a higher power spindle, as when you run a VFD on single phase you loose some percentage of its capacity. If you go online and pull down the manual for your particular VFD you can verify it will run on standard three phase power being applied to the input of the drive. All you really need to do is make sure all three phase come into the input of the VFD, right now you probably have two wires, add the third missing phase and you will have all three inputs. Please consult your manual to ensure you particular VFD can run in this mode. You do not want to remove the VFD and run the spindle on straight 3 phase power because you will not be able to adjust the frequency which allows you to control the speed. Hope this helps. CNCMAN |
