Recently, I rebuilt a Z-axis on my router, which has a p/n of 2300100400, and internally had a weird thrust bearing arrangement. I ended up modifying the thrust bearing assembly to use the same bearings I'm replacing X and Y with, which is the 7200B bearings from VXB, and created a new motor mount. The only remaining task will be to make a 1/2" spacer for the motor. In the mean time, I'm using simple standoffs. ![]() ![]() |

It's about refitting the z-axis to use true angular contact bearings instead of the kluster kludge that techno implemented. Originally, they used 2 spherical bearings and washers. It's amazing how they spared no expense to provide a decent 5mm pitch ball screw and wasted all that hard earned investment on cheap radial bearings. The replacement bearings, ironically cost only $6.00 more per axis each but in this case, it was likely cheaper than the original, but correct. |

| I have some videos on YouTube and most are referenced in the operations manual. This is my operations manual It's actually a late 20th century machine all with double bearing slides, 4 shafts per axis. More images are online at http://www.oretek.com/images/ in the more recent folders. I've seen the LC4896 machine as one of my customers uses it , and odds are, it has the same z-axis defects. I'll know for sure on Monday, but odds are, if they're using spherical bearings, they're not really thrust bearings, and not too hot on tolerances either. |
