Hey folks, I've only had my CNC Shark for a week, but I'm versed with CNC and fairly computer savy, so I'm stumped here... Getting my shark going wasn't too difficult, and I was just getting into my first real project when all of a sudden the head/gantry just stopped moving in the middle of a job, the control panel still continued processing the instructions but no movement. Same with jogging, it acts like it's sending the control (xyz position indicator changes, but the machine doesn't move. I unplugged, replugged, restarted, everything. even un/reinstalled the driver, no luck. the control box seems to be working, the software thinks it's connected, everything seems fine, just no movement on any axis - via jog or via code. it doesnt even do the little cachunk when plugging in the usb, as if I blew a fuse on the control box (except I don't think I did since both the power supply and the control box have lights/fans going.) I'm very bummed as the job I'm working on is due this week. I have a call into Tim Owens, but eager to get back going so curious if anyone has run into this? thanks, Steve Ogden |

| Hi, I've had my Shark for about a month. The only $0.02 I can throw in is that there are warnings in one or two places in the written and online docs to make sure that the motor cables never become disconnected while the system is powered on. Is there any chance that one of your X Y Z wires become intermittent due to the movement of the system? Did you secure the connection with the zip-tie that was supplied? I assume that the blue light on the control box comes on when you attach the USB? It's almost certainly on the motor driver side of things, but I thought I'd ask. Good luck. Jeff |

An update on my frustrating CNC Shark issue below... After receiving the first replacement controller and finding it didn't solve the problem, nextwave then sent out another controller and new motors (it took a while). I got caught up with other projects but when I finally got back to the shark, I got half way through that first job again, and guess what? Same problem, except this time only two axis' died. Ventilation was definitely not the issue this time. It's been a week and a half of trying to contact next wave, and the only response I've gotten is that they had no parts in stock, so I'm sitting patiently. While I can believe that my situation may be an anomaly, I have to say that contrary to previous reviews I've read about Next Wave's customer service, my (2 months of dead shark) ordeal has been disappointing. Only 20% of my emails are responded and those have been only partial responses. I think only one of my phone calls have been returned. As far as tips for other users, the only plausible cause for the repeated failure we can think of is potential strain on the motor from my vacuum setup - excess resistance of dust collector hose on the gantry. I'd love to see others dust collection setups. I hope to update this with positive news and solutions soon, but for now the best I can say is "man, it worked great for the 20 minutes that I had it working." |
