commmercialy avail. 5 axi head

Is there a commercially avail. head that attached to the z axis of a cnc router? Thinking something that can handle a 5 hp columbo spindle? I want to make a ShopSabre type machine into a 5 axis unit.

Also, I'm not sure if there is a system out there that allows you to supply your own spindle. Looks like this one is built into the design of the unit, as most probably are.

I don't even have a 3 axis yet and I'm already planning my upgrade to a 5 axis!

I checked them out earlier. $50K. At that point you just buy a used 5 axis and rebuild it. I was thinking something in the line of 5-6K at most. Thanks for the post.

Trent Colombo makes one that has a 9hp spindle but it is also big bucks. I agree that you will be better off finding an older 5 axis. You might check our www.exfactory.com and see if they have any listed. I have tried to find a 5 axis frame for some time and no luck.

A friend of mine just purchased a 5 axis. 120" x travel, 30" Y and roughly 28degrees in A and B.

We have one exactly like it at work. The control is out dated and difficult to use. And I know he paid a nice shiney penny for it. He wouldn't say exactly, but from the way he talked, it was over $25k. 5-axis machines, even used, are hard to come by. Unless you have deep pockets.

Now compare that to the two 3 axis machines he has bought for under $2k (both in working order).....
