Does anyone have any experience with (or thoughts on) this machine: Thom Carr Art-Router 4 Axis CNC? I came across the web site during my search for a tabletop router. I am new to CNC, looking for a smaller router for prototyping in wood and possibly some aluminum cutting, most likely only occasional use. The other machines under consideration are Romaxx HS-1, IMService 12x24, K2CNC KT-2514 Last edited by kasi; 08-26-2008 at 07:10 PM. |

| My experience with Tom Carr has not been good. I ordered a machine from him 3 or 4 months ago & have not yet had anything delivered. My emails go unanswered & my couple phone calls to him have been answered with "I'll have it done in a couple more weeks". |

| I bought one with long waiting and finally it arrived. It will work with wood and plastic like you mentioned but if you want to cut aluminum, slow down the feed. Sad thing is my project ended and now I'm force to sell it.

| When did you order your's? Tomorrow with be the end of week 4 for me. (Ron said 3-4 week lead time but I'm being really patient) I can hardly wait. I have the computer ready in the shop with a nice place all cleaned off. I hate waiting but I think it will be worth it based on everything I've read about the quality of the machine, sale, and service. Congrats on the HS-1. |

| I haven't received mine yet. I ordered the HS-1. I'm getting really anxious. I have spent more on this machine than anything else in my shop and I haven't even received it yet! I've got bits, collets, a PC 892, computer, 17 inch LCD, dust collector, and a bunch of other stuff ready to go for it! I didn't even mention software. Yikes! I don't care to wait but Ron has been so good about all my questions so far, it's the only question I am not asking again. (I did at the 3 week mark but that was my only 1). haha |

My opinion of Thom Carr cnc machines, I bought one of Thoms machines in December 09. He said it would take about 30 days before he could deliver it as it was Christmas time. The machine arrived on time. I had problems with the computer basically it looked like the machine which was well packaged took some bumps and bruises when shipped. "Darn shipping companies" I had the same problem when Grizzly shipped me my bandsaw... Can't fault the seller for damage in shipping. I could tell the machine was well packaged but there were lots of big scuff marks on the box. Anyway.... My first problem was the computer was damaged in shipping and wouldn't power up. Thom Carr sent me a new computer to replace the one that was bad and it arrived 7 days after I let Thom know about the problem. When the computer arrived I was going to set it up that night. Even though it was late in the evening Thom stayed at work for a couple extra hours to talk me through the setup as all the Mach3 settings had to be manually due to the new computer. The damaged computer was plug and play. I had some bugs getting everything dialed in and Thom talked me though that as well. Compared to my first homebrewed cnc machine there is no comparison. Thoms machine kicks butt!! I also had a problem with a broken part (after 1 month of run time) and Thom is sending a replacement part. I suspect this damaged part was a result of the shipping company and rough handling. I can honestly say that Thom has stood by his machine and has always been there with outstanding support when needed either by phone or by email. I always had a "IMMEDIATE" response to my problems. Given the previous posts all I can say is I reccommend Thoms machines. They are priced right "actually too low" in my opinion. The one I have runs like a scalded dog other than the problems due to the damage it sustained in shipping. My Opinion... I figure any one who stands behind their product as well as Thom has done for my machine should be recognized. I would not hesitate to buy another machine from Thom in the future. I made the right choice buying Thom Carrs cnc. I highly reccommend Thoms machines to anyone. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. |
