Sorry It posted before I finished it!
I was talking about how they layout the AC Duct in the ceiling. It steps down to maintain the pressure. They same goes for long runs in duct collectors.

Now that makes more sense. Thanks for clarifying I just need to make sometime to play around with it. I'm still leaning toward a full 4" dia from collector to spindle. At least to see how the air flow works out. But I see your point.

dust collection has always been a neccessay evil and the only "quiet ones" i have ever seen were the one you cannot see!! we have several of the three hp freestanding units, and i am putting a new one together for the cnc's
we have moved and reconfigured our shop several times so the portability has always been an issue. this is changing if you can build a well ventilated closet that is insulated you can bring noise to managable just keep motor cool when running
