| Yes, I think the same. It's a very original way to have a 5-axis machine in a 3-axis one... I think that with this solution, I could make my foam models with a "simple" 3 axis machine... I was looking in John C Kleinbauer's site - http://www.kleinbauer.com There are a couple of good machines, and I think that they could be very low cost designs, but I believe he only draw the machines for North American guys... It's a problem for me, because I'm from Portugal... Are there any sites or other places were I can buy plans for a CNC machine for a work volume of about 1500x1000x300mm? Is this volume to high? Do you think that the Z-axis is to big? Sorry for the "newbie" questions, but I have a lot of questions about this issues... Best regards from Portugal, Ernesto Freitas |

| 300mm? That's only ~12 inches (for those of us in the USA) and that's not particularly huge, at all. Considering what you want to do, building models of cars, will 12" be enough? I'd had a thought, a while back, of *hanging* a gantry router from garage door tracks, to potentially provide Z axis clearance on the order of 2.5 - 3m! You'd raise your working surface up towards the hanging mechanism, to define the Z axis working volume to whatever you'd need, by placing an adjustable height table beneath it. Of course I never built it, but it seems like it should work... -- Chuck Knight |
