Thats great neil EAR MUFFS!! HAAA HAAAAAAA.. I found the loudest part to be the vacuum pump. We ran our outside into a weatherproof room (more of a small box that houses the pump).. The spindle is loud also. Get a water cooled spindle, they are much more quiet than air cooled..

that insulation made from recycled newspaper that is all torn up works great for sound deadening. I saw a demonstration where a bucket was lined with the stuff (packed) as was the underside of the bucket lid. They attached one of those loud piezo sirens to the underside of the bucket lid and lowered it onto the bucket. It completely blocked the sound. I am putting my air compressor in a sound deadening room and I plan to stuff the walls with the material.

Zenbot, don't forget that your air compressor needs lots of ventilation, a closed room may be its undoing. You can pipe its air intake outside with PVC and that may help, but the head unit is still going to need much air blowing across it.

Everyone, don't forget that acoustic foam and tiles only absorb certain (generally high) frequencies. Lower frequencies need mass. Hotels used to use thin sheet lead and solder between the sheets to make them airtight.

Rent or borrow a Spectrum Analyzer and see just what frequencies need to be dealt with. Most musical PA rental joints have these boxes. There is no sense buying a bunch of acoustical treatments that do not address the frequencies that are causing your problem.

Thanks for the heads up. I had thought of ventilation, I just haven't figured out how I'm going to give it air without letting all the sound out . Maybe a forced air ventilation system with baffling chambers to deaden sound?

What worked well for me is I got some 1.25 in. lexan from an old convenience store that was being torn down and built an enclosure for my Techno 50"X50" w/5hp spindle and you can hold a normal conversation right next to it.

They have it at Home depot and Lowes in the insulation section. It comes in plastic bags, and is typically blown into walls/attic. I think its called cellulose insulation.

Excellent Thanks Zen. I'll check my local HD and see what I find.

Find some used carpeting. Many times the used carpet may have areas which were not walked on and look just fine.

You can probably get it for free. Just follow an installer.*S

I lined a vibratory tumbler cabinet with it and you could hardly tell when it was working.

On each side of the wall I considered using GP Hushboard (sounddeading board found at a local lumber yard) and 5/8" gypsum on top of that (both on the interior part of the wall and exterior).

I have also read that fiberglass insulation offers no soundproofing qualities and either does "eggcrate" material.

Does any one have any tips for my dilemma?
Thanks in advance!
