CamTech RM25 router with Mach3

I bought a used CamTech RM25 router locally and sold the original camtech control and converted it to Mach3.

I made the control box to go under the router and the router has hinges on one side to open up like a hood on car for service :

Here is a CNC4PC bob:

Viewing the back of the Parker CD80m stepper drives and SS Relay for the router:

The 1KVa transformer for the drives:

Side of the machine, it had a Perske 3HP spindle on it but I don't have a VFD for it yet so i'm using the router for now:

The white stuff is foam that I was machining earlier:

And this is their cheapo motion system:

Over all the router looks nice but the way its build is very cheap and very light duty. I feel sorry for the guy that paid C$25,000 for it. As you can see in the last pic they have a bearing riding on aluminum and wore out a grove already and I don't think it has much hours on it. On top they have two regular bearing in a V arrangement riding on the two side support rods, the rods are not held to the machine in any way they just fit kind of tight in the aluminum extrusion. On the X axis they have some decent fully supported rods. The Z axis is a joke, since they didn't have limit switches on the machine only the top of Z had a switch. They have the screw coupled to the motor with a chain The Z screw was not rigid mounted to the Z carriage they had this:

So I got rid of their under engineered setup and rigid mounter the screw. And put limit switched on all axis. It has ball screws on the x and y and 24 x 25 travel and 2" Z.

This is what is was making out of the foam, at the bottom:

I made a new controller box for the router. Sold the Parker drives as they were too much for the small machine and bought three IMS drives and a power supply. Also took off the wood box I made for the bottom. All of it fit inside a PC case and runs nice and smooth at 270 IPM. The drives are 4 amp at 48V.

Drives, break out board and power supply are mounted to the heat sink and swing out:

Here is another picture and video of the router making a pattern for aluminum casting out of MDF.
