| Some poeple go with longest travel being X. Some people believe X is the one that is 'cross ways' when you're standing at the console/end/controller of the machine. Some say that Y is always the travelling axis on the gantry. Some say X is an unknown number. Some use a small crystal, hanging from a birch tree on a full moon night to determine the optimum placement and axis alignment for their machine... ie: toss a coin. |

I think your right. Seems all over the map. Do you have a CNC, what brand and where is the X? The general standard for the past few years, thanks to the sign industry, is the X is longer. I believe every vinyl plotters on the market, as well as large format printers work this way. Perhaps the older, big iron, CNC's would find it difficult to change their orentation. But for many of us sign guys it makes a difference. J. |

| Currently I only have a small home-built router... The X is the across the gantry tavel (Fixed gantry). I've worked with a techno router at a friends work, where the long axis was X. I found it a bit confusing, as you stood at the 'end' of the table where the console was, and it was difficult to think 'rotated' 90 degrees, and found using the remote pendant while standing 'beside' the machine easier, although not a good idea from a safety point of view. Cheers, Me. |
