We run a small snowboard company that produces about 200 boards a year. The one thing that we still out-source is the cutting and shaping of the wooden cores to a CNC shop. We are looking into purchasing our own CNC machine as it will hopefully be cheaper and also allow us to do some more prototyping and tweaking of the design. We dont have a huge budget for a machine and would like to start small to try it out. I don't even know where to start, we would need a machine that can cut at least 35cm x 90cm. I've seen one that is really cheap, but maybe not so reliable...more of a hobby machine. The Carvewright, its small but can do any length as the wood moves not the router. Is there anything else like this but a little more heavy duty? Any advise would help. Thanks, Jeff November Snowboards Last edited by bully; 02-09-2007 at 03:43 PM. |

| Since you need almost 6ft of cutting length, you'll have a hard time finding something for $5K. Depending on your skills (and tools), you should be able to build one for about that.

We use K2 CNC machines and are amazed by the price/performance. Nothing else out there even seems to come close. That being said, GorillaCNC in Canada (eh?) is sporting some pretty promising machines.
