Question Experience with Colinbus machines?

Hello,
I'm another newbie here (I've been lurking for a couple of weeks). I hope this is the right forum to ask this question:
does anybody have any experience with the Colinbus brand of machines, which are made by Franklin Industries?
I would like to know if the make good or not so good machines, specifically the CBR models. The reason for my question is that they have created a kit for a machine that looks quite like the CBR-40, in cooperation with the electronics magazine Elektor, and this kit is complete and reasonably priced. Which is good for a newbie like me, just assembling the kit and then start learning about CNC.

Retrofit kits for Elektor router

Hi,

The router looks good and offers excellent value, the software supplied however is fairly basic, this can improve it a great deal and you will have a great machine when done.

Translation

Hi Torfinn,

http://www.babelfish.altavista.com will do a translation for you:

An ideal combination, your Elektuur CNC router system DESKCNC, geber and excellon drill to provide with software traffic-jams import and right printje mill heat insulation. By means of DXF import and 2(5)D traffic-jam directly import and to uses mill, drills. JPEG, TIFF etc traffic-jams read in and engrave an image. An older PC. can serve as targeting (as from Windows98). To characterise: - learn simply, many possibilities - improve by many, as Mach3 assessed. - to 4 assig to apply - with spindel toerental supervision 0-10V = - two relais and 4 digital terminations - connection for HOME switches and limit switches. DeskCNC work by means of between ticket which is headed as from the PC. with RS232 high-speed, simple PC. is already sufficient (as from Windows, 98). Demoprogramma on application to get for free. Deskcnc easily to be able there is connect a so-called interface card available - to see my other advertisements. At purchase of kompleet system I provide programme to free Cad for the value of e 45.00. For further information mail. Look also to my remaining advertisements

Or have a look at his website: www.leeuwinga.nl

So basically this is a new controller board for the machine, and a different program to control the machine?

Or have a look at his website: www.leeuwinga.nl
Unfortunately, the website (even if it has flags in several languages) doesn't display the text in anything else than dutch.

new controller + software?

Deleted because of double posting (either because of user incompetence or a bug in the system), please ignore.

Exclamation Elektor Profiler router and deskcnc

Beware,
Deskcnc produces G-code which is not understood bij the profiler router, as it speaks Shpgl. The function of the controller for deskcnc is obsolete as the controller is already inside the profiler. I do have a profiler.
Kind regards

Smile Elektor Profiler

Hi FRP,

I think the suggestion was to replace the Colinbus controller with DeskCNC which will allow full 4 axis capability, the current controller is only 2.5 axis. Being able to use G-code will make you compatible with everybody else. The question was, is the Profiler a good construction?

Cheers,
Greg

Profiler

Hi again,
Technicians from colinbus told me that there was a great demand for colidrive to intprete G-code and that there is a chance that they end implementing it into the colidrive beside the hpgl code interpreter.
To my opinion the construction is fair good.
However the Z axis is a weak point. It cannot stand very wel stress from the side. But it might be good enough for machining wood.
I replaced the original spindel (which is not that bad as it looks) with a Kress 800W
The steppers are to my opinion a bit on the low side (I think, no more than 0.4 mNm). But once the mechanic problems of friction (a real pain in the a***) fixed and trimmed it works OK.
For big pieces I think the work surface is a bit limited. For the moment I only do PCB's which is not a problem at all, but later I also would like to do some small wood work, but I don't have the software for it. I'm a student and paying extra for adequated cad/cam software is not an option now.
Hope to help you with this information.
FRP

Help

I have a colinbus LaboFlex-60/HF and I don't really know how to use it.

What I am trying to do is not milling or PCB designs but rather for it to just poke holes in a tube. The holes need not be big but they just need to be at a certain interval. I created a simple design using ColiDrive but when I click on the "Make It" button nothing happens. Can anyone help? Thxs.
