precision automation PA1000 CNC

I have recently acquired a Precision Automation PA1000 CNC which dates back to 1999. Are there any other users out there than can share their experiences with this machine.

Is this the machine built by that guy in Tampa? All aluminum machined 5 x 12 bed?

I ran that machine for 3 years in West Palm Beach. How on earth did it get to your neck of the woods? It was my first machine and I had to learn it and cad with no help at all. We used Bobcad 17 and made fighting chairs and custom furniture for large boats. By the end of 3 years I had that thing dooing stuff the owners couldn't believe. First of all it was practically indestructible, believe me I tried. Second, I was using a 3/4" x 6" 2 flute upspiral to cut 2 1/4" teak parts, including angled holes 4 1/4" deep.
This bit, I used to trim parts by 20 thousands of an inch after rough cutting with a 1/2" dia. chip breaker to compensate for just a little bit of flutter. I don't remember all the details, but if you have specific questions, I'd be happy to give you whatever info I can. I may even still have manual if that would help.

I'm in the same position you were in when you started. I have no CNC experience and am working with a very solid but obsolete machine. Machine was loaded with Bobcad 17 and I have since purchase Bobcad 20. This is huge upgrade for Bobcad. The computer is still running windows 98 and Abilty Systems Indexer. The real issue seems to be with the G code converter that came with the machine. Bobcad can't seem to come up with correct postprocessor to fully make use of machine features. The manual confuses not only me, but also their techs. Most of the issues deal with the second head which has a drill mounted on it. Did you have a two head version of this machine? I was hoping to find someone who had a hand in building these machines but no one seems to want to admit to being involved. Any help will be appreciated.

Thumbs up

Bruno
I called around and got the builders name and number. This guy is scary smart and should be able to answer any questions you may have concerning the machine itself or the software. E-mail me at jtaliaferro@newrivercabinet.com and I'll give you the info.

I just called him and he is looking forward to your call.
