Initialy I will be using a 3.25 HP Porter Cable router but I am not sure how long it will last. I will be doing mainly spindle work up to 20" by 11'. Anyone know how many hours a PC will last? I hope to migrate to a commercial spindle. My mill will be running at less than 100 IPM so I don' need top end spindle. Anyone have any recomendations? |

| There's a couple of posts in this thread (http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19207) that appear to indicate very good long-term reliability of the PC routers, so you may find it's OK. I haven't put mine through any real use yet to be able to get an idea of reliability. |

| The cheapest way would be to buy the 7518. and run it 'til the bearins go. I've heard of people replacing the bearings with higher quality ones, and getting longer life. How long it will last is not just a function of speed (feedrates), but also how much material youre trying to remove at that 100ipm. I believe you can pick up a decent spindle from here for about $2000, if you find the 7518 isn't up to the task. http://www.ekstromcarlson.com/spindle%20motors.htm
