Need help converting a Precision Automotion PA2000

A friend of mine bought a Precision Automotion PA200 router and it runs on DOS. I never learned DOS so this machine needs to be converted to Mach. The machine has a 4 axis controller from Anaheim Automation similar to the one in the link. The computer has 2 parallel ports on it and it use both ports. One port for x and y and the other for w and z.

Questions I have are as follows,
    1. He needs a new computer, one with 2 parallel ports. Any suggestions?
    2. Is it going to be as simple as plugging up the new computer and installing Mach 3 to get it running?
    3. Would it be easier to gut the machine and install new drivers and servos?
I know I am going to have to figure out what the ports and pins settings are and that will take some time. That's just a few questions I have at the moment, I am sure more will arise in the next few weeks.
Here are a few pictures of the machine.
    Thanks Guys

if the controller software is microsystems you may be able to upgrade the software at little to no cost. MicroSystems World CNC - PC Based CNC Controller - WinCNC CNC Software - CNC Controller Software - WinCNC - CNC Motion Control - "Home" i upgrade my nema 34 motors (different machine similar setup) using kelling microsteppers and drives http://www.kelinginc.net/

    What You Need

    All you need is:

    1. Computer - A SIMPLE 3.0Ghz Pentium Desktop (NO LAPTOPS) running WinXP with ONE built-in parallel port (usually comes standard). [You will only need a second parallel port if you want to run a hand held pendant (remote handset) - or if you want to control more than a 4th axis.]
    2. A copy of Mach3. Installed per Artsoft installation manual (download and start studying now - before you commit to buy anything).
    3. A good Break-Out-Board (BOB) of your choice. Google "CNC breakout board" and start comparing features, performance, prices. Then do a Forum Search here on CNCzone for your favorite BOB pick. You will find lots of pros/cons for each BOB you pick. It's all a compromise.

    Then you will have to:
    1. Install computer.
    2. Install Mach3 on the computer (go back and re-study install manual).
    3. Hook up the computer to the BOB in accordance with the instructions that come with the BOB.
    4. Configure Mach3 in accordance with the Mach3 manual (start studying now).
    5. Hook-up the BOB to the Anaheim Automation box that you have (use BOB instructions and AA spec sheets/wiring diagrams from the website link you posted).
    6. Turn it all on and begin the troubleshooting process. There will be tweaking, tuning, testing, calibrating, configuring, etc., etc. that will need to be done.

It's not rocket science, but it will take some studying, learning, planning, and patience.

I helped work another fella thru a similar modification. Read this thread.

    Good Luck.
