    CNC router route?

I am looking into a purchase of a CNC router. Less than 36"x36" is the size. I have a line on a couple Larken machines 24x24. One machine is are 12 years old and the other is older for sure.

What should I be looking for on the electrical and software end?
Are there must have up dates to the hardware or software that will be required?
Any other pit falls in looking at machines this old?

    Thanks
