Default Looking to buy a CNC router

    Hi folks,

Big newbie here so bear with me. I am a student at Virginia Tech studying Industrial Engineering and my senior design project is to implement a CNC router for a local company. I have done a fair amount of research but I think it would be better to post on here to get directly related feedback on the issue...

I know a lot of choosing a router is based off the material being cut. I do know that we will be cutting primarily Russian Birch (3/8" thick) (5x5 sheets). There won't be any complex cuts, essentially just cutting rectangles and drilling holes.

Like anyone else we are looking to maximize throughput while minimizing waste. I think we are probably looking into the $70-100k+ range. I know we need to take into consideration IPT, SFM, IPR, RPM, etc. But I really don't know how to determine what we need.

Any help from y'all would be great!

    Thanks in advance!

How many sheets do you need to cut per day?
What size are the holes, and how many per sheet?
    What size are the parts?

If all that you're cutting is 3/8" plywood, you can probably get away with spending a lot less than $100K.

We are looking to produce as many as possible. Hole sizes are about 1/4" and about max 20 holes per sheet. We are making a similar product to this...

Look at Thermwood. They are awesome machines. I was recently quoted a 5' x 10' router with a tool changer for $102,000 with a vacuum table. They are made in the USA.
