Z Axis is not consistent. Losing Steps?
I have a large cnc router I bought in the mid 90's. Lately the Z Axis is running a little too deep and sometimes not deep enough for the v carve engraving I do. I need help to troubleshoot whether this is mechanical or electrical/signal related.
Precision Automation 5 x 10 cutting area
Two spindles (Z)Perske 5.5 HP and #2(W) is a Porter Cable router
Anaheim Automation drivers and stepper motors
The Perske motor is heavy. It has a tension spring installed to help lift it. I'm thinking some component of the system has grown weak. Electronics/drivers or perhaps something mechanical has gotten weak. Because it basically engraves the same thing most all of the time I was concerned something wore out. There is no apparent wear in the gearing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
