Help needed please.

We have a tornado 100 an a 300, and when programming a taper it has started leaving steps on the dia/bore. If u put a clock on the dia and step it down the clock doesn't read movement then all of a sudden it will step down a couple of thou. It tapers down towards the chuck. Is it the encoder?
Thanks Kieran.

First thing to check is the adjustment of the gib strips. It seems odd that you're getting the same problem on two machines though?

I'm making a bit of progress I think, I've taken the belt off the x axis motor, the motors fine but when I turn the belt it still knocks when the lead screw turns, so I've lowered the turret down to it's catcher bolt and taken the bearings out and the lead screw turns nice and freely. When I look at the bearings they are either buggered or floating type bearings. Anyway new bearings are on order so let's see what happens.

The bearings wasn't the problem, gib strips are fine, I've checked it's not backlash. Does anyone have any advice?, could it be the motor that's faulty because it only registers on a clock once it's moved 3 thou or if I use the step x100. or a faulty brake? Please can someone help me. Cheers.
