Tailstock Advances prevent spindle turn
Hi All,
We have a Colchester Storm/Tornado CNC 300. When trying to use the tailstock, the spindle won't turn when tailstock advance.
Does anyone know what's causing this? We bought this machine used. Not sure if previous owner has set some parameter to prevent crashing spindle on tailstock. This makes the tailstock useless.
Please help..
Thanks
Ray

Um ... I fail completely to understand WHY you would want to move the tailstock while the chuck is running??????

Re: Tailstock Advances prevent spindle turn
Just to clarify.....we were trying to use the tailstock to run a long part. When we extended the tailstock, the spindle refused to turn. When we retracted it all the way back, then the spindle can turn again. We are buffled...

Re: Tailstock Advances prevent spindle turn
Hi riemanl,
I saw your year 2011 request for help for the spindle not turn when tailstock advanced problem. Hope by this time you got a solution. I am experiencing exactly the same problem for my Colchester tornado A50 lathe with Fanuc 21i-T control. When a long job held in chuck and supported with tailstock centre and tried to run, the following message comes up.
"spindle won't start with t’stock in". The same program can run with out any issue, if the tailstock is not used. Could you or somebody knows a solution for this please help!!!!!
Thanks

First solution: shoot the tailstock.
Second sol'n" shoot the fanuc.
Does the Fanuc even KNOW where the tailstock is??? If so, ... can you fake the switch?

Re: Tailstock Advances prevent spindle turn
Ha ha ha...... I tried the first solution, extending the tailstock maximum until the red mark is visible. It worked just once. Then again the message "spindle won't start with t’stock in" comes up. Will there be any parameter setting to be changed???
