You forgot to mention the starting of another build before the building of the first is finished

Not much more to add, here are the rest of the photo's, same thing, in more pieces, lol. And one pic of the rest of the parts I have collected.

Yup servo driven, this is a large servo for the job, bit of overkill in fact, but it has a brake so when the drive is turned off (or blows up) the brake latches and stops the Z from plummeting into the table. As it is oversized I am direct driving it, not the norm for servo's but it should be fine. Only thing is that at top servo rpm (3000 at least) this gives the Z a potential speed of around 30metres a minute...should be interesting with 150mm of travel

Nice work so far Benny and Mikie... I would say "race ya!" but I know I will lose out on that one, last machine took me two and a half years to finish...I mean stop working on...

    Hey epineh,

'Z a potential speed of around 30metres a minute...should be interesting with 150mm of travel'

Great balls of fire, the concealed ballscrew is a nice touch.

Sorry I thought I replied to your post earlier, probably didn't hit the submit button...anyhoo thanks, I hope to do the same thing for all three axis's, will get some more aluminium once I have finished the Z axis completely...well except for the toolchanger that will take a while.

    Hi Mike,

'I have a PDF on your hybrid drive system which you may be interested in.'

If you are referring to the fisher paykel setup, I got a electronic engineer mate who had a glance at the circuit and spotted a few faults, plus the circuit cad is real low res and probably not good enough for chemical etching a board.
But be sure that if my mate fixes the design fault and I cad up the circuit pattern, it will be posted and shared.
Your machine has gilmer belt drive for the x axis, the belts look like the real expensive type. I bet she rapids nicely.
I wish I could afford all your extruded alloy t slot square.
I can only afford chook poo welded scrap steel for now.
I'd like to build one like yours one day.
    Dirk

The next BBQ will be our 10th.
I guess we need to make it special.
    When should we have it?
    Where should we host it?
What should we do different for it?
    Your ideas and suggestions needed.
Post your input HERE so as to start generating interest.
