ok, I need some starting direcitons, Im usually good about searching forums for my answer, but I didnt see a newbie section here. Im interested in bullding a CNC router, but I have no clue on where to begin, nor am I familier with their terminology. All I really know about a CNC mill is that they cut out peices that are designed in cad software or the like!! The usage of the CNC would be in my fainces parents buisness, they are from Poland, and her Dad is a fantastic woodworker, but he does everything by hand, and he spends some time on parts that dont need to be done by hand. The man is quite amazing with wood, and he started his own custom woodworking buisness, and has built himself up enough rep that he know spends alot of time making $40,000 peices of furniture for some of the local catholic churches Anyway, with him being from Poland and learning everything by hand, he knows nothing about using a CNC other than what I know, so I will be learning about all of this, and then me and him will build the machine together. i personally am soon to graduate electrical engineering school at Purdue, so I have quite a decent background in electronics, and do have experience in utilizing stepper motors with a microcontroller. I also have some basic knowledge in autocad, ive used it for PCB design and such So can anyone direct me where to begin, where to learn ..... Looking at the thread sections a little to overwhelming when your not familiar with the terms .... A basic CNC fundemental tutorial would be great ... Steve |

Hi, In 2000 I was going to convert my mill/drill to CNC and collected a lot of information about doing the conversion. I put it all in a website and put it on the internet. I hope the information can help someone else who is learning about ballscrews, backlash, power supplies, steppers, etc. http://members.shaw.ca/petermichaux/...Fit/index.html Peter |
