Greetings All I have just joined the site. I have been doing machine work for many years, as a hobby. I was trained as machinist as a young man but moved into other career directions. I recently read an article by Jerry Pryor, in Home Shop Machinist, about DC motors and contacted him. I had converted a lathe and a drill press over the last several years and the drill press recently developed problems. Jerry had some good ideas for me and also encouraged my to join this site. He has been into CNC for many years and, while I have been tempted, I haven't entered. I'm getting more interested. I see many examples of DIY CNC projects but not much by way of details. Has anyone ever come across articles that take one through the steps of converting a lathe or mill to CNC? Dr John |

Dr. John, I have also just joined this site and I am new to CNC. My interest is in a router not a milling machine but I may have an answer to your question. If you go to rockcliffcnc.com and then go to their links, you can find more detailed information. Dan |

| Dan Many thanks for the reference. I went there this morning and copied the Guide To Understanding Building A CNC Router Yourself. Very informative. General enough to give me some ideas about what I need to consider when converting a Lathe or a Mill. Dr John |
