A couple of those were threads from last week that had new replies. At least they are in the right forum.

Unfortunately we get a lot of new guys trying to drum up business coming here and not spending any time to figure out what is acceptable or not and posting their ads indiscriminately. There was another new one today. 8 posts to his name, all spam.

Some other guy did that last week, posted in all of the syil threads. I pm'ed him and explained a bit about forum etiquette. He had other posts that were actually of some benefit so it wasn't worth complaining to the administrators unless he persisted. In his case he was just a bit too enthusiastic about getting his message out...

It is a real downer when you come in and do the new posts search and find that all of the new posts in the thread you are following are spam grrr...

it became spam some weeks ago when I complained about it but alas someone said the poor chap doesn't speak english well and cannot differentiate between "DIY CNC Wood Router" or "CNC Build Log" from "Advertising".

What I hate the most, however, is when this guy posts something like "Is this a good idea for DIY linear motion/DIY this/DIY that/Insert snappy DIY catchphrase here?" and it turns out to be a picture of another one of his machines or a drawing thereof.

On the other hand you gotta hand it to him - the guy is persistent!

I have moved a raft of Advertising posts by Syil and Hao that were not posted in the New Products section.
Maybe time to limit the action a bit!

I am not trying to defend him, but he is actually trying to open a dialog with potential customers.

For example, IhaveNoFish has been "critiquing" some of How Mau's design flaws, so How Mau keeps doing new iterations and posting them.

Granted, I am not a fan of "chinglish" or excessive postings, I think I understand what is the root cause of this exchange. This is one of very few places How Mau can get the kind of feedback he is obviously hungry for, and fellow CNCZoner's are responding with opinions.

How many machine designers/manufacturers are you aware of that are willing to sell casting patterns for their product? How Mau is the only one I am aware of! The "wood model" he posted about is in fact a casting pattern for one of their small-scale mills. That is incredible!

I am of the opinion that as long as he posts in the appropriate places (ie, not in the Haas, Okuma or other SPECIFIC brand forums) then he is doing people a favor, obviously denoted by the fact that certain members are indeed responding to his posts.

Do I wish the communication were more clear, instead of pidgin talk? Of course I do. But I have worked with many people from all over the planet who had less of a grasp of the language and far less enthusiasm, and still managed to accomplish something. I am hopeful that How Mau's postings are helpful for him as well as for other CNCZoner's.

Whether or not the posts are beneficial, there are Forum rules that should apply to everyone.
If all manufacturers were allowed to post content that is solely advertising in any Forum, as these poster have done, it would become chaotic.
This is why the Product Announcements was created in the first place.
If he wants to engage in general dialogue on certain features or practices then there are plenty of forums for this.

I am in complete agreement with you. I think perhaps he does not understand this. Or that HIS boss doesn't think his postings fall under the work edifice, unless he is doing "Product Announcements". And I also think there is a bit of opportunism that is being engaged in, by where and when he posts. Overall I think that his intentions are "good" but that his acting on them are "bad".
