3J collet in a 16C nose?

Hi friends,

Will a 3J collet work with a 16C collet nose? I have purchased a small CNC lathe that came with a 16C collet nose and draw tube adapter. I bought a few Harding 16C collets on Ebay and the threaded end on the 16C collet falls thru the threads on the adapter that is supposed screw to the collet end.

So I am wondering if the previous owner was using 3J collets in this 16C nose or If the used machine dealer just bolted on the nose to sell the machine.

I am hoping to find out. I don't want to buy a 3j collet and it not work.
