Freshly laid off, 9/10/09

If anyone needs a VMC, or mazak inetgrex guy, im available. Ive never been fired or laid off from any job in life untill thursday at 4:45pm. Still pissed off about it. I feel that I did many good things for the big company and won numerous awards, but in the end, im just a number.......

No, I just started my own race parts custom design and manufacturing company. Its doing OK for being only a few months old. Ive been learning ALOT with the new software I got recently. Have parts in 3 magazines soo far.

Interview went well. They drill .002" and .004" diameter holes in polymers and Nitronic 50/60 parts for gas analyzer assemblys. They have a ton of Fanuc 5axis VMC Robodrills with 16 I-M controls. They do all macros for programing. They said they could only give me $17/hr to start b/c I dont know their macro style of programing. This is the thing that really pisses me off about the CNC world. I know 5axis, I know g-code, I know setups, I know tight tollerance work (-.0000/+.0005"), and have worked with exotics and polymers, but just b/c I dont know their macros, I get lower pay...

Really starting to get frustrated with this industry. Ill probably have to take the job b/c there are no other jobs out there and its close to home (1 mile away). Its giving me a headache thinking about it..

Take it and learn their way of programming; then ask for a raise.

1 mile away even beats my situation, my business is 1.2 miles away.

They said I will have a 90 day probation and a review around christmas it looks like. I told the guy strait up, "Sir, with all do respect, the last company I worked for told me I would have a raise at 6 months, and 18 months later, I still never recieved anything. If yall say I will have a review in 3 months, can I hold yall to your word?" His response was, "If we say we are going to have a review, we most definatly will!"

I guess I just have to take their word. If they dont come through, ill walk out on January 1st. Tired of being lied to and being used more than anything just b/c im young. I might be young, but I damn sure aint dumb!

Don't let it get to you too much; and when you get to be an old fart try to remember what it was like to be young and don't treat young people like you where treated.

I never have or will. I treat a 65 yr old man the same way I treat a 18 yr old kid as long as they both treat me the same way I treated them. Im a very easy going guy.

Getting someone to hire you is a privilege, not your right. Don't make demands before you have worked and shown them you are worth the risk they took in hiring you. First impressions matter a lot because they are so hard to erase later. In my opinion you left a bad one. Your demands should have been saved until you were in a better bargaining position.

I hire people. You would have given me pause to wonder if I'd made the right decision. The "I'll walk" attitude would have clinched it for me; make sure you don't let it show. Sorry, just giving you the other side.
