Hi everyone, glad to be a part of this forum. Since I am not in the CNC machining trade, I just had a few questions. A friend of mine told me about a job opening at Arthrex here is Naples FL, for a CNC operator. They use L20 swiss citizen machines and produce surgical titanium and stainless instruments for the medical field. This got me very interested, and he mentioned about a school up in New Jersey owned by manufacturer of the L20 swiss machines and offering a week long course for CNC machine operators. Now, before I make that huge plunge from a decent paying job to applying for this job I wanted to hear from real world CNC operators on what they think of this career field. I am not a whizz at computers but know the basics, and also am not to good at complex math. but I do know how to solve mechanical and electrical problems being in the automotive tech field for 12 years. Sorry for the long write as my first post, but I just wanted to hear from you guys and gals on how difficult this field is and your honest opinions on the career as a whole. thanks again, Erik |

Education is never wasted and there seems to be a good fit between electrical/mechanical automotive repair and a CNC course. It's a tough job market right now, but I would think it would open up many different possibilities for you (N.C. Machining, Machine Repair, Installation, Tooling and Controls Build???). But, I think the real trick when contemplating a career move is to be directed in finding an industry with projected expansion over the next 10/20 years. |
