Software for gecko banner?

I know nothing about computer graphics but i have a ideal for the gecko banner, what software would i use to make it with. I tried photoshop but the size was 198k for a blank panal. Any suggestions for a computer challenged wannabe like myself?

Swishmax is like flash only a heap easier, and it can make animation. It has a 30 day full working free trial. Realdrawpro is a beauty. Same deal with the trial.

I used paintshop pro and Ulead gif animator. Both of course have full functioning trial versions.

I used Photoshop CS. Even with 40+ Layers, a .jpg that is 450x150 can be saved at less than 50KB.

CRFultz, I have photoshop elements (yeah, I'm cheap ) and there is an option to "save for web". This will radically reduce your image file sizes. Might be worth a go?!

The "save for web" will get you a smaller file.

In Photoshop Elements, you can control it further using Image->Resize->Image Size.

Adjust your pixels/inch to a smaller number to reduce the file size. Make sure the width and height are correct.

I used photoshop:cs for my submission(s) also.

photoshop will do just fine. the size may be 198k when saved as a .psd but if you save it as a jpeg image, you can change to quality to get a loew size. mine was a high quality and still under 50k
