hello all! | | Just introducing myself, and I have a few questions. Im 24, from the Buffalo NY area. Im currently serving in the Army In Iraq at the moment. Before I joined, I had spent 4 years as a set-up/operator on various machines such as Okumas, Cincinatti Milicron, Soraluce with Hiedenhain control, OKK's with Fanuc. Most of my work was on Mills, not much work with lathes. Ive worked with some fairly large mills (The soraluce had a 24ft x-axis) along with some complex set-up and tight tolerances(ive been able to hold .001 over a 16ft plane. totally lost that when the part was moved off the machine hahaha!).I am a member of the IAM still, Anyways, now that you know a bit of my backround, Im just curious as to how the industry has been doing the last few years. I would like to get back into machining, idealy using my GI bill to further my education. Can anyone recommend any schools or maybe have some other ideas on how I could better myself. If half the population isnt glueing bicycle tires to their shoes for soles, I would like to get back into machining when I get out. Thank you for taking the time to read this and take care!
