I took this picture at work a while back (almost over a year ago), but lost the image somewhere on my computer. Since I just did a reinstall, I ended up finding it, while backing up. Thought it was kinda neat: ![]() Here's one more, while machining: |

To be honest, we didn't cut the entire spiral. If you take a closer look at both the first and second picture, you'll notice that only about half of it is being machined. Or to be more clear, we were just taking out some material. The company that gave us the work actually had guys grinding away at it. I think after about 2 days, they finally gave it over to us, to machine out, not only to make it faster, but look much better as well. I believe we used Zlevel roughin/finishin to do it. Came out pretty good in the end. But to answer you question I can't recall exactly how long, but I think we had it on the machine for about 2-4 days. I do have some more pictures at home, I'll make sure to upload them, with some other work as well. Its been a while since I was last on CNCzone, and forgot how picture hungry many members (and moderators) are |

| Impressive work on that spiral. I never tried anything that difficult. I cut this part on our Haas VF3 with a 4th axis. It's a roller used to make baby diapers. I had to program it manually (using a spreadsheet) since our CAM software won't handle a 4th axis. Programming the curves around a 4th axis is a pain this way. Bill |

| wjbzone The HAAS manual has a G107 (cylindrical mapping ). Which means you program the shape flat and use G107 to wrap it around the round part in the 4th axis.
