Unhappy We have lost a valuable member in our Community.

Dennis John Novotny (aka NC CAMS) passed away early this year. He died from long term
health complications. He was a valuable member to of CNC Zone for over three years with
3,320 posts. Many of those posts were made while undergoing medical treatment. He died at
his Michigan Home in Ann Arbor. Dennis was 58 years old.

Here is a little information that I know about Dennis personally, and from his business partner Blenn at
NC Cams & Equipment and long term friend.

At times he may have seemed a little abrasive but his intension was to always help others.
Dennis was the type of man that would bend over backwards to help anyone that asked for it.
He even took it upon himself to help others around him in the hospital with the same health problems.
Dennis also researched and resolved problems with the equipment being used to keep him as well
as other patients alive.

His last activity on CNC Zone was 1/30/09 at 3:17am and it is estimated that he passed between that date
and 2/2/09. He was a dedicated friend, and Member of this Community.

Dennis will be missed by many here.

Below is a short list of his acheivements.

2004 NC Cams & Equipment (Co-Owner)
Designed and Manufactured camshafts that helped one team dominate
(12 wins in 16 Races) over a multi-year time frame under NASCAR
"restrictor plate" rules - an accomplishment that had never been achieved
in the history of the sport while experiencing NO valvetrain induced engine
failures in the process.

Toyota Technical Center
Proposed a power train VALVE which was adopted and put into production

NSK Corporation
Co-directed the developement of new machine tool & industrial
product applications.

Technical Engineering Consultants
Introduced a unique cam profile design method that yeilded
more power and improved idle quality without hurting emissions
fuel efficiency, durability, or low speed torque. Formulated an intake
manifold cost reduction proposal that offered improved vehicle driveability
and performance.

Active Member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)

B.S. Mechanical Technology
Fenn College of Engineering @ Cleveland State University

A.A.S. Mechanical Engineering Technology
Youngstown Technical & Community College @ Youngstown State University

Dennis will be greatly missed on our Community.

Mr. NC CAMS, you were an inspiration to me; as an engineer and as a true human being.

Geof will become famous soon enough

Sadly this does not come as a surprise. I guess many people observed how NC and myself struck sparks off each other. But we communicated by PMs and came to understand our different approaches. NC also told me a lot about his background which went a long way to explaining his attitude; he did not have an entirely easy life.

Several months ago I observed that NC seemed to be missing so I sent so some PMs to see if he was still around. He was but with very serious health problems which he explained to me. Following that I saw him make an appearance every now and then, but I had noticed these appearances had ended a while back.

Personally, I was amazed by his knowledge....a little caustic at times, but always understandably so.

RIP NC CAMS

NC Cams,

I asked him a few dumb questions about bearings, and although he could seem a bit brusque, I always got the impression that he was more than willing to teach an eager student, and to share his wisdom generously.

This is sad news.

Best wishes,

Martin

Sad to hear. He seemed to be a knowledgeable guy who won that knowledge through hard work and dedication. 58 is way too young.

Sorry to hear that. I will definitely miss NC. He contributed his time very freely here. A great pity he passed on so young.

Sincerely,

BW
