| I was just wondering if I post a plan for anything do I still own the information posted or does it now become the property of CNCZone? Quoting from the terms of service "All information contain on cnczone, becomes sole property of CNCzone.com. A tricky Statement I think. budP |

| "anything you post becomes property of the world" Is this a Joke? I asked for a explanation of what the terms of service means, if it means what it says or not. Keebler So what you are saying is that everything posted does become the property of the owner of the forum. Is this a legal opinion or just fud? Did I say anywhere in my post that I was worried? You or the other poster have no concept of what copyright means, I don"t think that you give up your copyright protection by posting information on any BBS. Or anywhere else for that matter. I woud like a reply from a administrator or the one that wrote the terms of service as to what it means to them. budP d |

| I used to dabble in cartooning. I do have a website and have posted other toons on other forums around the web. This does not mean I give up any copyrights anywhere. This is done and the forum posted in gets one time use. In other words, it can be used in the context of which it was posted. The owner of the zone would certainly have a battle on his hands if this is what he meant in these terms. I think what is meant is that he can stop the use of it in someone else linking to it elsewhere in case bandwidth becomes an issue. In this case, it would allow him protection on his bandwidth to block the link even by the original copyright owner. I doubt it would mean that he owns the original artwork.

| I think it is phrased poorly. The owner needs to establish that he has the right to delete anything from his site that he wants to delete. Therefore he has to make sure that any poster cannot claim ownership of anything on the site but the way it is phrased is a bit too all inclusive.

Say you post a schematic of some cool circuit and say its just for home use. Then China takes your schematic and starts selling these gadgets by the thousands. Copyright or not, your schematic has pretty much become property of the world, not legally, but practically.

My father is a patent agent. I think I have discussed this with him enough times. And maybe try using the SEARCH feature, patents and copyrights and posted pulications have been argued on this site within recent years. Do you know what a copyright entitles you to? And yes, my original comment of "it becomes propery of the world" was not intended to be taken so literally, it was a sarcastic primer to basically say use common sense. Do you realize what procedures and how much time and money it can take to protect a copyright or patent? If you do, you'll just use common sense. |

| #1 Hire a Patent Attorney. #2 Give him/her all your money. EDIT: forgot the time aspect; lotsa money, lotsa time and vice versa.

Yep, I think the actual formula is ((patent attorney)$$$ * $$$) + a lot of time = just use common sense. |

| "just use common sense." Exactly, that is what this tread is all about, common sense tells me to find out just what is the intent of the term of service that I an inquiring about. As far as lawyer fees are concerned I have never hired one that I did not get what I payed for. I guess the advice here is when someone copy's my patent don't hire a lawyer just roll over and let it happen because I cannot afford to defend my stuff. I would bet that that gecko controllers have spent some bucks defending there stuff. budP |

I remember Marriss posting on another thread, he's had his designs ripped. But he's never posted schematics AFAIK, the vulture bought one and copied it. It's would be in open invite for troubles if Gecko were to post full schematics and a component list for thier drives. |
