Hi,
It's time. I have been lurking around for quite some time and now I've done it - first post. Aprehensive about whether this is the proper forum. My name is John and I'm a tinkerer not a bad thing, however it means i have no money left over for things like booze or women. I am a mechanical engineer by profession and a self taught machinist with a good complement of machines - Bridgeport, 14" Birmingham lathe, Miller MIG and TIG, etc.
None of the equipment is CNC and hence the reason for my first post. Its Time to get a CNC Mill.
I have an opportunity to buy a Shizuoka mill about the size of a bridgeport. $1000 this machine runs ok but one of the axis motors shuts down if it runs continuosly. the other is also a Shizuoka but this one is much larger and runs ok $2500. and lastly a Matsuura 500V i think, with a 16 tool changer Asking price is $7000 maybe I can trade my manual bridgeport on it and cash.
Advice?
Oh yeah, I have to get it home when the wife is not around. I managed to get a Greyhound bus behind my garage and it took a while before she asked, but that is another story.
Thank you,
