Company name suggestions

I'm thinking of starting a company. I would do CAD work for a few customers, and hopefully sell some CNC electronics products (like the controller card I'm working on). In the future I hope to develop robotic parts and algorithms, perhaps technical toys and stuff like that. Also maybe some electronics design if the opportunity arises.

So I need a company name! The company should have a Swedish name since this is where I live, but I also need an English name that fits well with the Swedish name.

I have been thinking of A Brodin Tekniktjänst - my name is Arvid Brodin, "tekniktjänst" means something like "technical services". In english, perhaps Brodin Technoworks (???). Or does this just sound silly? Perhaps it's also too general?

Any suggestions?

Arvid

Doesnt sound silly.
It is very general though. I wouldnt have much of an idea what you did by the name.
Im not thinking these are so good but it gets the ball rolling.

Well, I know nothing of business practices and tax laws over there but a big problem here is once something is a business the world descends on you wanting a piece of the action. Banks will not cash checks unless you have a way overpriced business account with them, auto tags are commercial rather than personal, insurance is higher....the list goes on and on.
To counter this a lot of people with one man shops or who are tentatively getting their feet wet in a new line of business will just use their name as the business name.
For these reasons I'd make sure the business name was something along the line of Arvid Brodin Tech or Design, or something that would not raise eyebrows when you say " Just make the check out to Arvid Brodin."

Just a follow up on my previous post.
Trying to find a name that succinctly describes your or any business is difficult...
Lawyers, Architects, City Planners, Builders, Surveyors, Doctors, Engineers etc frequently use their name at the top of the web page, business card, sign...and then subtitle their specialty under their name. That way the issue of "What exactly do you do?" is answered without the awkwardness of trying to incorporate it into the business name. For the little business guy this also gives the bureaucratic advantages addressed previously.

DareBee, sol, thanks for your input!

I will think more about the name, I think it's an excellent idea to use my name as main company name, but I would like to find a better subtitle that better describes what I'm into, without getting too limiting or complicated... Inventions, Conceptual Services etc are even more general than "technoworks".

But as you say, they get the ball rolling

Inventions - definately general, but conceptual is exactly what any designer does all day. (The way I perceive it anyway)

How about Ikeacad, or Volvocad, Abbacad, Vikingcad, Husqvarnatech, Or you could swap the "cad" part of these names with "tech" or "bot" ( robots)

You mentioned that you want an English name that reflected your swedish heritage.
Most english will easily reconize those as sweedish exports.

What about Bjornbotics

EDIT: SAABraCADabra ...... LOL.

EDIT: smörgåsbotics

I just found this site of english words taken from the Sweedish http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionar...edish%20origin
Just make sure you dont try and use the word "fartlek" in your name

Hahaha, nice suggestions Benny!

I promise, no "fartlek"! (I don't even know what a fartlek is!)

I don't necessarily need an English name that shows that the company is Swedish; rather I want both names to mean the same thing, and both should also sound right.

BTW, Ericsson is a nice example of a successful company that uses only the founder's surname as company name! (Founded by Lars Magnus Ericsson in 1876 - it was originally a repair shop for telegraph equipment. From www.ericsson.com.)
